I have been proud to call Washington, DC my home since 1999, initially settling in the Palisades and moving to Chevy Chase in 2010. As a longtime resident, I’ve had the privilege of watching our vibrant community grow, and I am deeply committed to making it an even better place for everyone.
My story
For over two decades, I have taught in Montgomery County Public Schools, first as a middle school Social Studies teacher, and more recently as an English Language Development (ELD) teacher. Prior to my teaching career, I worked in public service for Senators Dianne Feinstein and Sam Nunn.
At home, I live with my husband, a former Naval officer currently working for the Army, and our twins, both graduates of Lafayette Elementary and Deal Middle School, now seniors at Jackson-Reed and School Without Walls. In my spare time, I love hiking, gardening, reading, and enjoying the culinary talents of my family.
Civic Engagement
I am passionate about fostering community collaboration, finding practical solutions to local challenges, and advocating for the needs of our neighborhoods. After years of volunteering, I would like to contribute in a leadership role that leverages my experience, knowledge, and skills. I have been active with the ANC, have relationships with many of the current commissioners, and can collaborate with them well to meet the needs of the community. I want to work with and for my neighborhood, to continue making our community a great place to live. My civic volunteer experience has included the following:
- Palisades Citizens Association, Traffic Committee
- Lafayette Elementary School: Room Parent, School Improvement Team
- ANC 3/4G: Lighting Task Force
- Mayor’s Streetlight Advisory Panel
- Friends of Lafayette-Pointer Park, Volunteer
Listening and Building Consensus: Get to “Yes”
Over the years, I’ve seen that there are a range of opinions on any given issue. I feel that it’s important to seek input, hear where people are coming from, find out what their root concerns are, and use that information to build consensus.
Here’s an example. Before the school renovation 9 years ago, Lafayette’s field had two baseball infields, with a shared outfield. During the renovation, the School Improvement Team (on which I served) looked at some priorities that at first glance seemed to conflict: a desire for a half-sized field of play space, and a desire to continue the beloved neighborhood sport of baseball. The SIT talked with Cap City Little League and DCPS to work out the compromise we have today: one baseball infield on the north end, and a play field/outfield combo in the middle/south of the field. Since then, we’ve seen soccer practices and pickup play on the south part of the field at the same time as the Little League is holding games on the north part. I am proud to have been part of that consensus building, and will continue that approach going forward.
